Aaliyah - One In A Million 1996

Aaliyah's debut paved the way for a legion of teen-aged female R&B singers, including Brandy, Monica and 702. Aaliyah is no kid, though; she sings with a maturity that belies her age. Much about her life has changed, but she remains a mature young lady who sings about the ups and downs of true love experiences on this follow-up record. Obviously a trained singer, Aaliyah glides easily between vocal ranges. Her soft style is more refined than the over-exaggerated riffs of other R&B songstresses. As on her first album, she pays tribute to the Isley Brothers, this time with "Choosey Lover." She adds more old-school flavor with her remake of the Marvin Gaye classic "Got To Give It Up."

Aaliyah & Keshia

According to sources Canadian R&B songstress Keshia Chanté has been casted for the leading role of Aaliyah for the upcoming Aaliyah biopic. A couple of years back - it was supposed to be video vixen Destiny Light. Keshia definitely has an uncanny resemblance that makes her more suitable for the part and supposedly she also has the acting chops to pull it off. The movie is slated to begin filming this August.

Rare Aaliyah pic in VIBE

In the latest issue of VIBE Magazine with Plies on cover...

There is a story about Static Major, with family/friends speaking about his life. In the article there is a picture of Aaliyah standing with Static, it is rare.

Also, in the article it speaks on Aaliyah's relationship personally and professionally, very interesting read. One thing it says that; Aaliyah did not like the song "Try Again" she didn't want to record it, but did!

Fader Magazine Pays Tribute To Aaliyah

Aaliyah. covers the new June issue of Fader Magazine. The June issue is the Annual Icon Issue and Aaliyah is definitely a Icon. She will always be missed but never be forgotten. Check out some excerpts from the issue below:

Aaliyah Movie Gets Personal…

New info has been released on the upcoming Aaliyah Movie:

It has been reported that Warner Brother Films will be creating the motion picture of the late singer and actress Aaliyah who died in a plane crash in 2001. Aaliyah sold more than 32 million albums worldwide before her career was cut short. The film will be a biopic of the singers life. Bill Condon, director of “DreamGirls” will be directing the film.

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher.”

A source for the film reveals that they “will be going very deep into Aaliyah’s life” and will allow fans to see the “most intimate side of Aaliyah’s legacy.” Sources say the script for the film ‘holds no bars’ and will go as far as touching on the subject of Aaliyah’s highly debated and publicized marriage and annulment to producer R.Kelly.

It has also been confirmed Aaliyah’s colleagues will be featured in the film. Her choreographer Fatima Robinson, Producer and friends, Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, even world renowed music video director Hype Williams will be apart of the film and help re-create the “Rock The Boat” video set which was the last video Aaliyah ever shot. The movie is tentative to start production end of March and is rumored to have a production budget of over 80 million dollars.

Timbaland and Missy attempt to evoke the old R&B sounds of Aaliyah and Ginuwine. "I ain't no R&B singer like Beyonce but I can hold a note, so don't laugh at me," Elliot said during the listening session.

Damon Dash Mourns Aaliyah 'Every Single Day'

Rap mogul Damon Dash mourns the death of ex-girlfriend Aaliyah every day, seven years on from her tragic death. The pair was dating when the R&B singer was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001. And Dash insists he has never gotten over the loss.He tells WENN, "I commemorate her every single day in my own way. I knew her very well and one thing she loved about me was I lived my life. I continue doing that."
